Terms of Use

Last updated October 2, 2026

In short: TapCards is for learning Japanese. Premium is $2.99 a month (or the local price shown in the store), renews until you cancel in your store's subscriptions, and your cards are yours either way.

These terms are an agreement between you and Mariano and Sons Productions, Inc. ("we", "us") for the TapCards app and this website. By using TapCards you agree to them. Our Privacy Policy explains how we handle information.

Using TapCards

We give you a personal, non-transferable licence to use TapCards on devices you own or control, for your own learning. Please don't copy, resell, or reverse-engineer the app, extract its word packs to redistribute them, or use it to break the law or anyone else's rights.

TapCards Premium

Your content

The cards, notes and tags you create belong to you, and stay on your phone. When you send us a message or report a problem, you let us use what you sent to answer you and improve TapCards.

Our content

The app, its design and its word packs belong to us. Dictionary data comes from JMdict, KANJIDIC2 and KRADFILE (© Electronic Dictionary Research and Development Group), JmdictFurigana and JLPT lists, used under their Creative Commons licences (credited in the app and on our home page); those licences, not these terms, govern that data.

No guarantees

We work hard to make TapCards accurate, but dictionary entries, word packs, text recognition and translations can be wrong or incomplete. TapCards is provided "as is", without warranties of any kind, to the extent the law allows. We may change, add or remove features and packs over time.

Limit of liability

To the extent the law allows, we aren't liable for indirect or consequential losses, or for lost data (please make backups), and our total liability for any claim is limited to what you paid us for TapCards in the 12 months before it. Some places don't allow these limits, so they may not apply to you.

Apple users

If you got TapCards from the App Store: these terms are between you and us, not Apple, and we, not Apple, are responsible for the app and its support. Apple has no obligation to provide maintenance or support. If the app fails to meet a warranty that applies, you can tell Apple and it will refund the purchase price (if any); Apple has no other warranty obligation. Apple isn't responsible for claims about the app, including product liability, legal or consumer protection claims, or intellectual property claims. You confirm you aren't in a country under a U.S. embargo or on a U.S. list of prohibited parties. Apple and its subsidiaries are third-party beneficiaries of these terms and may enforce them against you. Your use must also follow the App Store's terms.

Ending

You can stop using TapCards at any time by deleting it (and cancelling Premium in your store). We may stop providing the app or a feature, or end your access if you break these terms.

Law

These terms are governed by the laws of the State of California, USA, without regard to its conflict-of-law rules. This doesn't take away any consumer protection rights you have where you live.

Changes

If we change these terms, we'll update them here and change the date at the top. For important changes, we'll also tell you in the app. Using TapCards after a change means you accept it.
